- Bentleigh was named after the Australian politician, Thomas Bent who was also the 22nd Premier of Victoria. In the early stage of his career, Thomas Bent was a property developer buying and selling properties in Brighton and the nearby areas and that’s when he developed the suburb, Bentleigh, and named it after himself. He was said to be one of the most colourful and corrupt politicians the state of Victoria has ever seen.
