Richmond is situated in the local government area of the City of Yarra Municipality. It is well known for its vibrant Little Saigon area along the Victoria Street.  Richmond’s train station is a major hub, with plentiful trams criss crossing the suburb.

Near the station, Richmond’s manufacturing history lies in full glory in old factories, with some still bearing vintage logos. There are major supermarkets, as well as gourmet options with a plethora of Asian grocery Stores. In 2016, Richmond had a population of 27,705, with the major part being people of English ancestry ( 22.6%) and Australian ancestry 15.8%
